An albumen print, with printed legend on verso "Vannerson & Jones, Photographic Artists, No.77 Main St. Richmond, Va." a good postwar profile portrait depicting the white-haired Lee, as President of Washington University, in civilian suit and bow-tie, looking left, boldly signed in ink in white lower portion of the print. An accompanying note explains that "this is one of one hundred photographs of General Robert E. Lee, which he signed, and which were sold for the benefit of the Confederate Sanitary Fair, held at Richmond in 1864."
