Weitere Abbildung Weitere Abbildung Weitere Abbildung Friedländer. - Eluard, P., La saison des amours. Mit 12 sign. Orig.-Aquatinta-Radierungen von J. Friedländer (und 1 weit. Radierung auf der Mappe) sowie 1 sign. Orig.-Zeichnung von Friedländer (lose beilieg.). Paris, Éditions de la Prade 1949. Lose Lagen in OU, in grüner OFilz-Kassette. Folio. Monod 4231. Zeichenkarton. "The text and illustrations of La Saison des Amours, poems by Eluard with thirteen etching-aquatints, reflect the climate of the period with 'L'Amour c'est l'homme inachevé' as a leitmotiv. His etchings are peopled with Freudian symbols , sometimes treated with Klee-like fastidiousness. but with more of a roughage element in the actual cuisine of the aquatint element. The example shown (40) is characteristic of his portrayal of a female nude, emaciated like those familiar in the coeval work of Gruber and André Marchand and later Bernard Buffet yet not lacking in sensual curves, to which the background forms act as a counterpoint. The poem 'Pardon' ('Elle me faisait déjeuner sous la table' and ending 'le jour buvait tous les poisons du soir') is illustrated by a primeval fish-form against a constellation-like background, engulfing a skeletal bird. It is both decorative and sinister. Friedlaender is one of the most accomplished and original practitioners of etching combined with aquatint and this has led him to concentrate on individual prints or albums." (Strachan) - Kassette fleckig und beschädigt. 1 of a few hors commerce copies of the rare de-luxe edition, with a signed orig. drawing by the artist loosely attached. - Fine, broad-margined print on creme 'Marais'. With 12 signed orig. aquatint etchings by J. Friedländer (and 1 further etching on the portfolio). Loose sheets in orig. wrappers, in green orig. felt case. - Case stained and defective.
