λ Fernandez Arman (Franco-American, 1928-2005), Untitled, paint brushes and running paints within a perspex case, signed and numbered 3/20, 71cm high, 30.5cm wide, 5.5cm deep, on a black base The present work is an example of Arman's 'found object art'. Strongly influenced by Dadaism, the Nice-born artist was a founding member of the Nouveau Réalisme group, alongside other renowned artists including Yves Klein and Jean Tinguely Arman began displaying found objects in perspex vitrines in 1959. He referred to these works as 'poubelles' ('dust bins'). Andy Warhol allegedly owned two. Arman's work is held in the collections of MoMa New York, the National Gallery of Art, Washington and Tate Gallery, London. A set of six paintbrush works, entitled Color Strokes, was sold at Phillips New York, Editions, 29 April 2013, lot 25 λ Indicates that this lot may be subject to Droit de Suite royalty charges.
