JAUNA (Dominique)]: HISTOIRE GÉNÉRALE DES ROÏAUMES DE CHYPRE, DE JERUSALEM, D'ARMÉNIE, ET D'EGYPTE, comprenant les Croisades, et les faits les plus mémorables de l'empire Ottoman, Leiden and Franeker, Freres Murray and Romar, 1785. First edition, second issue, 2 vols., 4to (245 x 187mm.), engraved portrait frontispiece, folding portrait of Marie Therese and 6 folding maps and plans, FINE CONTEMPORARY GILT-TOOLED (?)DUTCH RED MOROCCO, the covers panelled with rolls and repeated chain-link tool, small tools including a bell, cornucopia, vases and floral ornaments, the spines in six sections with raised bands, lettered in two, one of these on a green morocco lettering-piece, the others tooled with rules and swags surrounding a large central vase tool, gilt roll on turn-ins, light green glazed endpapers, gilt and gauffered edges. ELABORATELY DECORATED 18TH-CENTURY DUTCH BINDINGS ARE OF CONSIDERABLE RARITY AT AUCTION. This pair, perhaps from a Leyden atelier, is in very fresh condition. The first issue was published in 1747. cf.Blackmer 870: 'A second edition appeared in 1785, actually made up from the sheets of the first edition'. (2)
