Mit 318 altkolorierten doppelblattgr. (zwei gefaltet) Kupferkarten. 6 Bll. Praefatio und Introductio (fehlen die gest. Titel) sowie zus. 6 Bll. Index und Lagenverzeichnis. Prgt. d. Zt. mit Deckelvergoldung, teilw. etwas berieben und fleckig, ohne die Bänder, Rücken mit neuerem Prgt. -Streifen verstärkt und mit irrigem Rückentitel ("Bleau Geographia T. I, III und V)" versehen. ( ) Koeman 1:401. - Lateinische Ausgabe des großen Atlas, nach Koeman in der Variante a: "For the 1638 editions there are two versions of the imprint, with either Janssonius's or Hondius's names mentioned first. The same versions exist of the 'Praefatio' (both versions have the same setting, only the names are changed). We call the Janssonius-Hondius version variant a and the Hondius-Janssonius version variant b". Vorliegend fehlen zwar die gest. Titel mit dem Druckvermerk, aber die Praefatio nennt Janssonius an erster Stelle. - Vollständiger Kartenbestand: Band 1 mit 108 Karten, darunter Welt- und Polkarte, 2 Europakarten sowie Gebietskarten von Großbritannien, Skandinavien, Deutschland, Rußland, Österreich, Ungarn. - Band 2 mit 112 Karten enthält Niederlande, Frankreich, Schweiz und Spanien/Portugal. - Band 3 mit 98 Karten enthält Italien (54 Karten), Griechenland (7 inkl. Cypern), Asien (13 mit Kontinentkarte, Vorderasien, Palästina, China, Japan, Indonesien etc. ), Afrika (6 inkl. Kontinent) und Amerika (18 inkl. Kontinent, Florida, Virginia etc. ). - Etwas gebräunt, teilw. stärker. Stellenweise etwas fleckig, einige Knitter- bzw. Quetschfalten, sehr wenige Karten etwas knapp beschnitten, einige Bug- und Randeinrisse, diese teilweise hinterlegt bzw. geklebt. In Bd. 1 nach Lage 4T 5 Ktn. nicht ganz in Lagenfolge eingebunden, in Bd. 2 die Textbll. b1-2 lose, Kte. von Burgund mit Löchern in den w. Rändern. Die 6 Indexblätter angerändert, in Bd. 1 und 2 am Schluß jeweils mit hs. Notizen. Three volumes, complete with 318 double-page (two folded) engraved maps, contemporary coloured by hand, lacking the three engr. titles. - Some browning, somewhat heavier in places, some spotting. Creasing to some maps, some tears to folds and margins, partly repaired or restored. In vol. 1 a few maps following gathering 4T misbound, printed text leaves b1-2 in vol. 2 detached, and some holes to margins of Burgundy map. The six leaves of index remargined, handwritten notes to final index leaf of vols. 1 & 3. Bound in contemporary vellum gilt, some rubbing and spotting, lacking ties, spines rebacked with vellum, erroneous title lettered to spine.
