(6 7/8 x 5 1/8 in.), dark blue morocco, covers gilt-panelled, spine gilt, turn-ins gilt, edges marbled and gilt, by Bauzonnet-Trautz, extremities scuffed, small marginal repair to colophon leaf, washed and pressed . Second (?) 1547 edition, with "emendatiores" at the end of line 5 of title, printer's woodcut device on title, 94 WOODCUTS BY HANS LÜTZELBERGER AFTER HANS HOLBEIN printed one to a page with Latin text in roman type above and Corrozet's French quatrains in italic type below, 4 medallion woodcuts of the Evangelists at end, two woodcut initials. Second edition of Corrozet's French translation and the third to contain the complete set of 94 woodcuts, first printed by Melchior and Gaspard Trechsel for the brothers Frellon in 1538, and used by them for three folio Latin bibles in 1538, 1544 and 1551. "With the Holbein volumes, Bible illustration at Lyons changed significantly. Certainly the extensive publishing programs of Jean de Tournes with the Bible cuts of Bernard Salomon [cf. lot --] and Guillaume Rouillé with those of Pierre Eskrich in the 1550's and 1560's... are related to the success of the Frellon-Holbein project.
