Objektsbeskrivning MOROCCO. HÖST, GEORG. Efterretninger om Marókos og Fes, samlede der i Landene fra Ao.1760 til 1768. Kiøbenhavn (Copenhagen), N. Möller, 1779. 4to (253x200 mm). (20), 291, (24) pp. Engraved portrait of the author, title with engraved vignette of a minaret, 2 engraved vignettes, 1 folding engraved map and 33 partly folding engraved plates, many engraved by P. Haas after Höst's drawings (all, 1 plate with spot, some minor spotting, 1 with marginal tear). Contemporary half calf, worn and rubbed, gilt spine in five compartments and with worn title label, some repairs to joint which is split in upper part, some minor damages. Notes and signatures on inside of upper cover and on first endpaper. Text with some minor foxing, page 83-85 with stain to margin, 1 page lacking corner of margin, a few minor tears to margins, at the end a few pages with dampstained corner. First edition of the earliest description of moroccan-arabic dialect in a european source. 1 vignette shows a map of north part of Africa, the plates depicts several views like Agadir, Essaouira, Meknes, Marrakech, but also plants, people, music, coins, ships and map of Morocco. A German translation by Sussmilch, with the same plates, &c., was published at Copenhagen, 1781, Georg Höst was a Danish Consul in Morocco for many years.
