Beschreibung:

Oil on canvas - Sig. - 80,5 x 65,5 cm
Remarks In the footsteps of the poet, writer Karel Van de Woestijne, Louis Scharpé, professor of Germanic philology at Louvain, visits Latem. He meets Gustave Van de Woestyne and Valerius De Saedeleer and at his invitation the painters explore Louvain and the surrounding area. Until 1912, Scharpé is the pivotal figure for Gustave during his stay in Louvain. On the advice of Scharpé, Gustave moves into Redingenstraat in 1909 and lives in the vicinity of his friend. His colleague Prof. Bromberger asks Gustave to portray his wife Adrienne Ferraille, from Ghent. With a modest smile she takes a seat in the dining room of the painter. Her gracefully draped veil around the shoulders, as well as the curves of the table with the Capuchin flowers evoke her appearance and inner beauty. We would like to thank Mrs. Huguette Van de Woestyne Vanagt for the information she has kindly provided for this work Provenance acquired directly from the artist by the grandmother of the present owner, in the collection of the family for 3 generations Documentation With documentation
