Early 19th-century vellum, sides panelled in dark brown ink, stamped floral ornament at each corner, endpapers watermarked 1802 (a bit soiled). FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. Il Pastor Fido , and particularly this translation, greatly influenced the development of Stuart pastoral literature. As with the other seminal pastoral drama, Tasso's Aminta , Il Pastor Fido is essentially a Vergilian eclogue joined together into related scenes to form a tragicomedy. Greg 183; STC 12415.
