one p, ruled paper sheet Observations on the occurence of Storms in Montana at or About the full of the Moon, signed and dated Helena, Mont. Dec. 20th 1879, Granville Stuart. In this informative account, Stuart lists records from 94 full moons, and closes I have never believed that the moon exercised any appreciable influence on the weather, but this would seem to indicate that it does, in Montana at least. Found among the papers of General Thomas H. Ruger, who served as commanding officer at Fort Assiniboine, MT and later as commander of the Montana District of the U.S. Army. Stuart (1834-1918) one of the pioneers who moved to Montana Territory with discovery of gold and silver in the 1860s, he became an influential rancher, vigilante, politician and spent his final years as librarian at the Butte Public Library. A fine document. Provenance: Descended directly in the family of General Thomas H. Ruger
