GIOVIO, Paolo (1483-1552). Moschovia, in qua situs regionis antiquis incognitus, religio gentis, mores &c. fidelissimere feruntur . Basel: H. Petrus and P. Perna, 1561. 8° (158 x 101mm). (Dampstain, some spotting in a few margins.) Contemporary limp vellum (soiled, lacking ties). Provenance : early readers (title signatures).

(Dampstain, some spotting in a few margins.) Contemporary limp vellum (soiled, lacking ties). Provenance : early readers (title signatures). A collection of earlier essays by Giovio, part of the Descriptiones volumes edited by J. Herold. Giovio's essay on Muscovy is followed by a description of Lake Como, and his popular De piscibus romanis , first published 1524, which describes the various fish eaten by Romans, where they can be caught and how to prepare them.
