DICKENS, Charles]. The Library of Fiction or Family Story-Teller . London: Chapman and Hall, 1836-37. 2 volumes, 8° (194 x 120mm). 28 plates after R. Seymour, R.W. Buss, Hablot K. Browne and others. (Plates spotted, one plate with closed tear, occasional soiling and staining of text, without half-title in vol. II.) Later green calf gilt, gilt edges (spines neatly repaired, fading to spines and edges of covers). FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE IN BOOK FORM of a monthly magazine containing the first appearance of two stories by Dickens, "The Tuggses at Ramsgate" (I, 1-18) and "A Little Talk about Spring and the Sweeps" (I, 113-119; later retitled "The First of May"), ascribed to "Boz" on the contents page. The former has two plates after Seymour, the latter one plate after R.W. Buss. Both stories were included in Sketches by Boz . SCARCE. Eckel pp. 137-139; Gimbel E122. (2)
