Basiert auf der heute in Wolfenbüttel aufbewahrten Handschrift, die Turnèbe gemeinsam mit Galande 1544 in dem belgischen Kloster St. Bertin bei St. Omer fand. Mit der von Mortimer erwähnten Illustration zu S. 1 34, hier separat auf einem kleineren Papierstück eingebunden. Die beiden Bll. LL1+2 verbunden. - Leicht gebräunt, zu Beginn etwas stärker, stellenw. etwas fleckig. Kopftitel teilw. leicht angeschnitten. Titel mit 2 gestrichenen hs. Besitzvermerken, vorgebundenes w. Bl. mit hs. Schenkungsvermerk "Donum Rev:mi Johannis Mori... Gul: Wottone". Mit gest. Wappenexlibris "Tindall Lucas". First edition of this compilation. With numerous woodcuts in the text some of which are full-page, 1 on slip of paper after p. 1 34. "Ancient texts on surveying, edited... from a manuscript which they found in the library of the monastery of Saint-Bertin at Saint-Omer. Galland's name heads the dedication to the Cardinal de L orr aine. Thirteen full pages of woodcuts of land measurement conclude the commentary of Aggenus Urbicus on Frontinus" (Mortimer). - Light browning, stronger to first leaves, some spotting in places, running title occasionally shaved. LL1&2 misbound after *1. Two cancelled ownership inscriptions to title, donation note saying that this book was given by Bishop John Moore (1646-1714) to William Wotton (1666-1727) fo front free endpaper. Restored 18th century calf, rebacked and free endpapers renewed, worn and somewhat stained, engr. armorial bookplate "Tindall Lucas" to front pastedown.
