"Berners has adhered so closely to the English idiom as to give the book the character of an original English work" (Sidney Lee in DNB). For his reprint Marshe copied the colophon of Middleton's undated second edition (c. 1542) of volume I and the colophon of Pynson's dated original edition of volume II. This dissemblance has caused much bibliographical confusion in the 19th and 20th centuries until it was sorted out in the revised edition of STC. Sets of either edition are now rare on the market. STC 11396.7 and 11397a.
