Francesco de Medici had married Bianca Capello, his mistress, in June, 1578, following the death of his first wife, Joanna of Austria. The notes on the title page and in Filippo and Jacopo Giunta's dedication to Bianca Capello indicate an earlier edition, anonymous and unillustrated and apparently untraced by bibliographers.
