General title, each part with separate title, 8 engraved plates, 2 double-sheet and one triple-sheet, extra engraved frontispiece with arms of Ernst August on recto and of Contarini on verso. Woodcut initials and type ornaments. Blank leaves D2 (part 3) and E2 (part 4) as rear pastedown and flyleaf, respectively. (Light stain in one leaf.) Early buff paper boards, title written on front cover (small tear at rear hinge, rear cover lightly stained). Provenance : Ernst August II of Hannover (stamp). In August 1685 Ernst August, Duke of Brunswick and Luneburg, passed a summer idyll at the country villa of the Venetian procurator, Marco Contarini, near Piazzola. The L'orologio del piacere describes in detail the fabulous entertainment -- banquets, music and theatricals -- which Contarini provided for his guests, each of the 5 parts being devoted to a particular episode of the visit.
