DECLINING TO SEND ONE PRESIDENTIAL AUTOGRAPH, BUT SUPPLYING ANOTHER. "I have no autographs of President Taylor to spare," Fillmore writes in his brief note, evidently turning down an autograph-seeker's request for a sample of the late President, whom Fillmore replaced after Taylor's death in office in 1850. The recipient had to content himself with a fine sample of Fillmore's own hand.
