EMBOSSED ATLAS -- RAVENSTEIN, August, Embossed Atlas containing Seven Maps in Relief . London: A.N. Myers & Co. [c.1880]. Boxed set of seven embossed maps, in colour, each 215 x 260mm and mounted and framed, with hand-coloured printed versions of each map, loose in plain wrappers. In original publisher's cloth box, the interior of lid with printed title page, 'Embossed Atlas for Elementary Instruction in Physical Geography', with accompanying colour key to maps, the exterior with elaborate allegorical title, the whole housed in modern cloth box. A remarkable three-dimensional teaching tool, comprising maps in relief of Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Australasia and Polynesia, and a twin-spherical map 'illustrating the chief divisions of Land and Water in both Hemispheres', which includes an imaginary map to show geographical features, identified as an 'Ideal Picture of the Physical Geography of the World'.
