An orotone portrait of Theodore Roosevelt, signed by Curtis in the lower right corner of negative, 7.5 x 9.5 in. (sight), framed and glazed, 10.25 x 12.5 in. This portrait was taken in 1904 when Curtis was invited to Theodore Roosevelt's family estate at Sagamore Hill, New York to photograph his family. He had requested that Curtis photograph his sons after seeing a portrait Curtis had taken of a Seattle Girl who was one of the winners chosen in the "Prettiest Children in America" contest, sponsored by Ladies Home Journal. The portraits that Curtis took of Roosevelt's sons as well as the rest of the family were subsequently published in McClure's Magazine, July 1905 (Davis, 1985: 38). Condition: Very light, scattered spots; otherwise excellent.
