(Early Printing : Incunabula) 1 Vol. Tacitus, Publius Cornelius. Opera (ed. Puteolanus). [Milan: Antonius Zarotus, 1475-1487]. Second printed edition of Tacitus' extant writings, such as they were known prior to the rediscovery of Annales I-VI. Improving upon the editio Spirensis (ca. 1470), Puteolanus' text contains the editio princeps of the Agricola and expanded portions of the Histories. Folio, mid 19th-century red morocco gilt, raised bands, spine compartments gilt, t.e.g., marbled endpapers; hinges not quite starting, corners slightly bumped, some scuffing and rubbing but altogether very bright. Old (contemporary?) hand-colored initials at incipit Praefatio (folio 1 recto) in green ink; at Historiae (folio 2 recto) in blue and red ink, with initials at book headings in blue ink passim; at Germania (folio 151 recto) in blue ink; at Dialogus de Oratoribus (folio 161 recto) in blue ink; and at Agricola (folio 177 recto) in blue ink. Text complete in altogether 187 leaves, 160 and 176 blank; lacks blank 188. No title page or pagination, as called-for; later foliation in pencil lower left, very unobtrusive. Leaves likely washed ca. early 20th century (?), excepting Praefatio (folio 1) and Agricola (folios 176-187), both rather more browned and toned; unobtrusive pinhole-size worming at Agricola folios 176-187, dampstaining, too, to margins of final text leaf 187 (not affecting text). Top margin appears slightly trimmed. 293mm x 204mm. See: Goff T-7.
