Engraved frontispiece and 8 folding engraved plates (Title and preliminaries browned, occasional marginal soiling and staining.) Contemporary panelled calf (rebacked, preserving old gilt spine). Provenance : FFJ (monogram stamp on title). Fourth English edition, first translated from the French in 1696. The original French edition was published at the Hague in 1694. Blackmer 514. Thomas FULLER (1608-1661). The Historie of the Holy Warre . Cambridge: by R. Daniel for Thomas Buck, to be sold by John Williams, 1640. 2 (281 x 185mm.) Engraved frontispiece and folding engraved map. Contemporary calf, spine with raised bands and gilt-ruling, red morocco lettering-piece (spine slightly worn at head and with worm-hole at foot, upper corners rubbed). Provenance : M. Bunbury, 1680 (ownership signature on first leaf). Second edition, the first appearing the previous year. STC 11464. KORAN. The Alcoran of Mahomet, translated out of Arabick into French by the Sieur du Ryer ... and newly Englished . London: Randal Taylor, 1688. 8 (187 x 112mm). With initial blank. Contemporary panelled calf (joints cracked). Provenance : R. Tighe (early signature on title). THE FIRST COMPLETE ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE KORAN. The French edition was originally published in 1647. The English edition first appeared in 1649 in both quarto and octavo. The 1688 octavo edition is not in Wing or Blackmer who record only the folio edition of that year. Cf. Blackmer 925 and Wing K-748. William ETON. Survey of the Turkish Empire . London: for T.
