Complete: title in red and black, additional engraved title, 475p. and the 8 folded engraved plates with fine views. Some scattered browning, three pages of text with some marginal loss, overall very good condition. Dumont (16671727) travelled extensively in the Levant in late 1680s. He visited Greece, Egypt, Smyrna, Constantinople and treats with the Ottoman and Greek customs, the legal system, the condition of women and slaves and the multinational society of the Levant. The First edition is extremely rare. It was missing in Blackmer and in Atabey. The plates of this edition are completely different that the plates of the second edition, depicting fine views of the Levant. Atabey 379 (for the second edition).
