(Design at Home, 2nd June 2018) A Massimo Micheluzzi Murano glass murrine vase, the colourless flattened oval section body cased in diagonal rows of tonal red murrines, the exterior surface carved with broad stripes in a battuto manner, curving at the sides to echo the form, designed and made by Massimo Micheluzzi, the base inscribed with a vibropen 'massimo micheluzzi MURANO 2003', 43cm high Massimo Micheluzzi (b.1957) is known for his use of traditional Venetian techniques, typically murrines and battuto carving, which are executed in a highly modern and contemporary manner. Born and educated in Venice, he was introduced to glass by Laura de Santillana, grand daughter of Paolo Venini His work can be found in museums and public collections internationally, including the Corning Museum of Glass, and The Museum of Art & Design in New York and he is represented by top galleries including Barry Friedman in New York. These two vases were part of a special commission by a leading interior designer for a private Russian client.
