thence by family descent to the present ownersExhibitedLondon, Royal Academy of Arts, 1827, no. 1111 [possibly];
Edinburgh, National Galleries of Scotland, (inv. no. NGL 054.89) [certainly]Catalogue noteBurdett was a Whig politician who, like Charles, 8th Lord Kinnaird, was a strong supporter of Charles James Fox. His painted portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is in the National Portrait Gallery, London (inv. no. NPG 3820). Another version of Ternouth's bust portrait is in the members' entrance of the Palace of Westminster, London. The Westminster bust appears to have been the version exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1827, no. 1111. However, given the fact that the present bust is dated 1827, it cannot be discounted that the Kinnaird bust was in fact the one shown.
