Lawrence O'Bryan Branch (1820-1862). Confederate brigadier general with Stonewall Jackson in the Valley Campaign distinguishing himself at Cedar Mountain and Second Bull Run. He was killed by a Union sharpshooter at Antietam as he conferred with Generals Hill, Archer and Gregg. Partly printed DS, L. OB. Branch, 1p, Raleigh, 10.5 x 8 in., May 1, 1853. Embossed corporate blind stamp present. A stock certificate issued to P. C. Person for eight shares of capital stock of the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad Company at $100 each. Boldly signed in space provided as president. Large attractive railroad vignette engraving at top center margin. Branch is listed as rare in the Manuscript Society checklist of CSA General autographs.
