Edward M. Ashley was from Milan, Ohio. He enlisted in August 1863 into the 9th Ohio Cavalry, and mustered out in July 1865 at Lexington, NC. He went in as a private, but was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of Co. B by the time he mustered out. Joseph B. Daniels was from Washington County, Ohio, although the town is illegible. There are three Joseph B.'s listed in the HDS database and one Joseph with no middle initial from Ohio, but this gentleman is likely the 36-year-old who enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 9th Ohio Cavalry. He was promoted to 1st. Lieutenant and Captain before mustering out at Lexington. Both photographs with Columbus, Ohio backmarks: Ashley went to Reeve & Watts; Daniels to A.S. Baldwin. Condition: Both with minor surface soil and very light foxing.
