CRUIKSHANK, George (1792-1878).] Fairburn's Description of the Popular and Comic New Pantomime called Harlequin and Mother Goose . London: J. Fairburn, [c.1806]. 12° (190 x 117mm). Hand-coloured frontispiece; extra illustrated with a hand-coloured engraving of Grimaldi. (Light offsetting on the title, short tear neatly repaired in frontispiece margin, minor spotting.) Original printed wrappers in full red morocco by Riviere & Son, (wrappers with neat small repairs). Provenance : Sir David Lionel Salomons (1851-1925; bookplate). FIRST EDITION. ONE OF CRUIKSHANK'S EARLIEST PUBLISHED WORKS; Cohn records that the Truman copy included a note in Cruikshank's hand 'that this was the first etching done by him as his own unassisted work'. This copy with the original wrappers, and extra-illustrated with a hand-coloured plate of Grimaldi. Cohn 280.
