One page of letterpress description, 14 hand-coloured lithographed plates, each surmounted with demonic head-pieces. (Plates spotted, small marginal tears, plate 12 with tear extending from lower margin just into image). Original cloth-backed printed buff wrappers (worn and rubbed with small tears to edges and some small loss). Provenance : Duke of Gloucester (bookplate; his sale, Christie's London, 26-27 January 2006, part lot 690). Johnson's curious and amusing moral tale of the downward progression of the gambler from his mis-spent youth to the Mad House.
