(Wozniak, Steve) CL 9 CORE UC-100 Remote Control Provenance: James Melikian Collection Date Published: 1987 Description: Universal remote control. 19x7x2.5 cm (7½x2¾x1"). Serial No. 005368. The first programmable universal remote control. Developed by Steve Wozniak at his company, CL 9, which he founded after he left Apple and was in operation between 1985-1988. Based on the same MOS 6502 microprocessor used in the Apple II. Wozniak intended for the remote to be a single replacement for the various remotes one might have in their home, with the ability to record and replay IR signals from other remotes, as well as connect to a computer. Untested and sold as-is. Hobbyists report other instances of the remote still working in the 2020s, though it may be necessary to solder in a new internal lithium battery. Condition: Near fine.
