Venice: Aldus and Paolo Manutio, 1556. 4to (268 x 200 mm). 173 ff., 8 ff. non. num. Aldine printer’s device to title page, numerous engraved chapter initials, many with historiation. Original paper boards, rebacked, all edges speckled red. Condition : light dampstaining mainly to fore-edge and bottom right corner, mild browning, corners torn to first two leaves; boards worn with some small gouges. Cicero’s tirade against Marc Antony, dedicated by the translator to Girolamo Ragazzoni. [With:] BEMBO, Pietro (1470-1547) . Prose di M. Pietro Bembo nell qvali si ragiona del volgar lingua scritte al Cardinale de Medici… Venice: Giovan Tacuino, 1525. 4to (269 x 180 mm). 95 ff., foliated to XCIII. Original paper boards, gauffered edges. Condition : significant worming to leaves and boards, some occasional foxing; back board detached, worn.
