Collection of images of China and the South Seas including a group showing the gunboat S.M.S. Vorwärts . Circa 1904 - 1905. 104 vintage collodion paper prints. Most circa 10 x 14 cm. Each mounted to modern archival boards, in 2 modern blue boxes each with reprint documentation booklet, 1 on the S.M.S. Vorwärts and its voyages and 1 on the South Seas. One booklet documents the complete history of the S.M.S. Vowärts and its crew. The individual stops along the Yangtze river are shown and also contains a map of Tsingtau and surroundings. All photographs, which were taken by the ship's staff, are numbered and described in the booklet. The second box includes photographs of the South Seas taken by the staff of various German cruisers. One image shows the S.M.S. Leipzig . – Some prints faded, some with surface rubbing/buckling, otherwise most in very good condition.
