XU BEIHONG (1895-1953) Pine and Birds Hanging scroll, ink and colour on paper 111 x 54.5 cm. (43 3/4 x 21 1/2 in.) Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist Dedicated to Tian'en Dated jiaxu year (1934) NOTE: Xu Beihong painted lots 1105 and 1106 for his good friend in Singapore Huang Tian'en, who was the sixth son of the famous Chinese entrepreneur Huang Yizhu. Huang Yizhu (1868-1945) went to Singapore in his twenties and worked in the sugar trade there. Huang later returned to Xiamen, where he established banks and developed public service organizations in his hometown. He was the founder of the Zhong Nan Yin Han (The China and South Seas Bank).
