CAPE OF GOOD HOPE. - Carl Gustav EKEBERG Capitaine Carl Gustav Ekebergs Ostindiska resa aren 1770 och 1771. Stockholm: Henry Fougt, 1773. Small 8° (181 x 112mm). Folding chart of the Cape of Good Hope, 5 folding plates (including a view of the Cape from the sea). (The view of the Cape with small repaired tear, 2 other plates shaved with slight loss, one of these with additional repaired tears, some light soiling.) Contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt with lettering-pieces in red and green. Provenance : Q.L.W.? (partially erased early initials on title); SBW (unidentified monogrammed bookplate). FIRST EDITION including a chart and a views of the Cape. Kennedy I,E19-20. Nicolas Louis DE LA CAILLE. Journal Historique du Voyage fait au Cap de Bonne-Espérance... Provenance : unidentified armorial bookplate dated 1782. FIRST EDITION of this work by the eminent French mathematician and astronomer, in which he exposed some of Kolben's errors (and comitted some of his own). Mendelssohn I,p.434.
