Engraved frontispiece, single title to each volume, 76 aquatint plates in sepia by J.C. Stadler after J. Farington, 3 double-page, and folding engraved map on two sheets. Extra-illustrated with approximately 203 portraits, 466 topographical or architectural plates, 10 original drawings and an autograph. (Some spotting of plates and text, generally lighter to plates, occasional browning of text.) Burgundy morocco by Riviere (upper joints of vol. I slightly split, light rubbing, corners bumped, some fading). Provenance : William Henry Smith, 3rd Viscount Hambleden (1903-1948, bookplate). LAVISHLY EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED COPY of this later issue, including 25 hand-coloured lithographs of Oxford after W.A. Delamotte, a further 54 hand-coloured views, an engraved panorama of Oxford, and 31 double-page topographical plates by Kip and others. The ten drawings comprise portraits of John Selden, William Juxon and Catherine of Braganza; a View of the Penitentiary by Thomas H. Shepherd, signed and dated 1829; London Bridge; St. Olave Southwark; The Old Tabard Inn; Woolwich Military School and the Barracks at Woolwich. Abbey Scenery 432; Tooley 102. (4)
