Booklet with humanist notes drawn from Roman and Greek Classical authors, in Latin and Italian, on paper [Italy, early sixteenth century (dated 1505, 1525 and 1528 in places)] 9 leaves (last but one leaf a singleton; first 2 leaves blank), with entries in single column, lines in a somewhat loose late humanistic hand, watermark a flower (close to Briquet no. 6443, Rome or Florence, 1498-1517) edges of pages bumped in places, some stains and occasional tears in leaves, foliated 242-250, else fair condition, 285 by 210 mm. The short notes and extracts here are drawn from the works of a number of writers from the Ancient World (Cicero, Vergil, Demosthenes, Aristotle, Seneca, Sallust, Ovid, Horace, Juvenal, Plato, Isocrates, Menander, Euripedes, Lucan, Catullus and Pliny the Elder), as well as a number of crucial Early Medieval authors (Boethius, Augustine, Gregory, Ambrosius, Isidore, Jerome, Cyprian and Lactantius). To these have been added a sermon on death primarily based on Cicero, De Senectute.
