Frontispiece in blue and gold with 24 tipped-in color plates of Bilibin's set and costume designs and black-and-white decorations by an anonymous artist. Original gilt-lettered decorated tan wrappers by Bilibin. Souvenir program for the opera by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, with libretto by Vladimir Belskii after the fairy tale poem by Alexander Pushkin. 2. Opéra privé de Paris: Premiére Saison, 1929. [Paris: "Succès," 1929]. Folio. 46 pp (two center spreads detached). With 9 tipped-in color plates, mostly of Bilibin's set and costumes, and other sepia photogravures. Color lithographed wrappers designed by Bilibin. Some soiling and small tear in back wrapper. Theater program for the Rimsky-Korsakov opera Tzar Saltan. Together, 2 pamphlets. The first pamphlet reprints Pushkin's famous poem, illustrated with Bilibin's designs for the original posthumous Zimin Opera production of Zolotoi petushok in Moscow in 1909. Although completed in 1907, the opera was banned from production for its perceived anti-tsarist content until after the composer's death. Bilibin adapted these designs for his "Skazka Pushkina" picture book, Skazka o zolotom petushk (The Tale of the Golden Cockerel), 1910. The second booklet reproduces Bilibin's new designs for the 1929 Opéra privé de Paris production of Rimsky-Korsakov's Tsar Sultan. Bilibin had designed the 1906 production of the opera in Moscow.
