BIBLE, New Testament, Greek. hs kainhs Diauhkhs apanta Eyaggelion... Novum Jesu Christi D.N. Testamentum. Ex Bibliotheca Regia . Paris: ex officina Roberti Stephani, 1530. Two parts in one volume, 2° (344 x 224mm). Titles with engraved printer's device, calendar leaves with engraved ornaments, final errata leaf with imprint and printer's device, ruled in red throughout. (A few leaves dust-soiled in upper margin.) Early 18th-century English red morocco, covers blocked in gilt with roll-tools and floral cornerpieces (slightly rubbed), spine gilt in compartments (slightly worn at head and foot, hinges split), g.e. Provenance : Rev. Charles Lydell (engraved bookplate, with donation inscription on endpaper, the gift of Martin Benson, Bishop of Gloucester); John, 4th Marquess of Bute bookplate. The third and most important of Estienne's editions known as the 'Editio Regia', with the text conforming more closely to that of Erasmus. Darlow & Moule 4622; Adams B1661.
