Autograph letter signed, one page, 4to , dated 1842, explaining his resignation from an unnamed society in protest at the election of John James Audubon as honorary member, giving as grounds his opinion that 'Audubon has not told the truth in his Biography of birds', and that the work contained 'innumerable errors, which shewed to me, that the writer of it, was not qualified to treat on Ornithology'; [ Together with :] four autograph letters by various ornithologists, including a a letter from Charles Lucien BONAPARTE to Mr Prince, 1854, informing the recipient that his son will be coming to London: 'I will be obliged to Mr Gould if he shows him his Humming birds'; and others by Edgar LAYARD, Richard Bowdler SHARPE, Lionel WALTER and Baron ROTHSCHILD.
