Photo-mechanical portrait frontispiece, 1 folding map hand-coloured in outline with route marked in red by hand, 1 lithographic plan, 2 plates of geological sections, 12 wood-engraved plates. (Some spotting, occasionally heavy.) Original red morocco gilt, upper cover with gilt pictorial vignette (based on the plate facing p.374), gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, gilt edges (spine slightly faded and scuffed). Provenance : Earl of Harrowby (lengthy presentation inscription from the editor, dated 26 June 1878). PRESENTATION COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION, a fine copy. Charles Tilstone BEKE.
