Audrey Hepburn Two autograph letters from Audrey Hepburn, the first written in turquoise ink to her father, Anthony Hepburn Ruston, from Burgenstock, dated 6th March, 1963, addressed to My dearest Fadher , the emotional tone of the letter suggests a rift between the two that had recently been healed, Audrey's joy at a recent letter from her father is obvious as she tells him... To say that your letter made me happy would be the understatement of the century, what I felt on reading it is too deep to describe at least with my poor vocabulary!....Let us not talk of the past...it is too hard to understand the whys and wherefores of things gone by....I grew up loving you very very much, whatever Mummy ever told me about you was always fine and loving....I perhaps am the most to blame for not showing you my love and thereby withholding it from you ..., she then goes on to talk about her relationship with her grandmother... I always answered her letters and thanked her for her sweet gifts, I adored her, and so much wanted to know her. In '54 I finally stopped working on doctor's orders having not stopped for some years...I was finally able to go to Vienna and had a wonderful visit with her. Shortly after I left Vienna an article appeared in an Austrian newspaper - an interview given by my Grandmother about me. I was terribly shocked, to be somehow commercialized by my own grandmother at a time when I desperately wanted to be loved for myself ..., she draws to a close, seemingly trying to explain her temper, possibly in relation to a disagreement with her father, though this is not referred to... The paddies attributed to me must still be around somewhere although they rarely manifest themselves as of old, they seem to stick in the pit of my stomach, on the whole less destructive that way ..., she signs off I love you, Monkey P [her father's petname for her], 4pp.; with corresponding envelope; - the second letter written in blue felt pen to her step-mother, Fidelma Hepburn Ruston, from Rome, dated 28th February, 1986, thanking her for letter and referring to a book.... an unauthorized "biography" of me. Two such books have been written both without my cooperation and permission, nor have I read them as I am disgusted by such an invasion of privacy, naturally also inaccurate as they can only write from hearsay, unhappily there is no law against anyone writing a book about whoever they please... , signing off Much love Audrey x , 2pp., with corresponding envelope (2)
