Paris, 1936-1939. In nine volumes. First edition. Complete set of the first series: Premier Cahier Mai 1936-Neuvieme Cahier Mars 1939. 12mo. Edited by Guy Lévis Mano. Featuring work by Henri Michaux, Hans Bellmer, Tristan Tzara, Franz Kafka, Rene Laporte, Paul Eluard, Federico Garcia Lorca, Pablo Neruda, Maurice Blanchard, Andre Breton, Leonora Carrington, Raymond Roussel, and many others; with illustrations by Bellmer, Andre Masson, Man Ray, Jean Mario Prassinos, Kurt Seligmann, Lucien Coutaud, Max Ernst, Yves Tanguy, Salvador Dali, Max Bucaille, Varbanesco, and others. Original stiff printed wrappers, issue No. 4 with original wrap-around paper band; scattered light wear to extremities and spines of each issue; all edges trimmed; Nos. 1-3, 5-6, 8-9 unopened; ads at rear of each issue; text block of issue No. 9 separating from wrapper; in remnants of worn grey slip case with original paper spine label.
A scarce complete collection of French publisher Guy Lévis Mano's important Surrealist journal, featuring contributions from some of the leading Surrealists of the time. Includes the important seventh issue devoted to dreams, assembled under the direction of Andre Breton.
