Album of least 33 autographs. Seems to be part of an autograph collection compiled by an British person in the late 19th century, who would write to religious leaders, politicians, writers, and artists, asking them a simple question (i.e. “When did you enter seminary?”) and collecting their signatures on reply. Any especially valuable examples seem to already have been removed from the collection, leaving those of lesser-known nobles, religious leaders, politicians, and writers, including: an 1881 letter from George du Maurier (1834 – 1896, French-British cartoonist & author); clipped signature from Eyre Crowe (1824-1910, English painter); signature Bishop of Bangor (Henry Majendie); R.D. Blackmore (1825-1900, English author; Lord Wantage (1832-1901, British soldier, British Red Cross co-founder); Bishop of Litchfield; Archdeacon Frederic Farrar (1831-1903) ; Lord George Hamilton (1845-1927, First Lord of the Admiralty, Sec. of State of India); George Lambert (possibly the Australian painter); Bishop of Salford; Lord FitzRoy Somerset; Henry Allen either Mayor of Gloucester or the MP; 1852 receipt & dispute resolution WP Goodbar & David Snodgrass of Sparta, TN; plus many illegible signatures.
