BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMER RIFLE BY WESTLEY RICHARDS, No. 12753, Westley Richards patent toplever, non-rebounding sidelocks with bolted dolphin hammers, best foliate-scroll engraving with much hardening-colour and blueing, the triggerguard engraved with a lion in a naturalistic landscape, highly-figured stock with pistolgrip, engraved pistolgrip-cap, cheekpiece and engraved butt-plate, sling-eyes, the bar-in-wood extending to cover the forend-hinge in a crab-joint, the browned damascus barrels with Henry patent rifling, sunken rib, open-sights and block-mounted foresight Weight 8lb. 11½oz., 14¼in. pull, 28in. barrels, Black Powder proof The rifle is of superlative quality and Westley Richards have kindly confirmed that it was completed circa 1875. It appears to have been very little used
