A Short Sword ( Wakizashi ) in Mounts ( Koshirae ) and a Dagger ( Tanto ) Edo period (late 17th century), signed Mutsu (no) kami Fujiwara Tsunashige , the second signed Yoshimitsu The wakizashi configuration shinogi-zukuri with an iori-mune back and o-gissaki point with torii-zori curvature and a wide bo-hi carved on the omote side and koshi-bi ni tsure-hi on the ura side, the forging pattern ko-itame with gunome choji midare tempered edge with small, rounded tip, tang unshortened with one peg hole and katte-sagari file marks Koshirae comprising a scabbard lacquered brown with raised black ribs made to resemble baleen mounted with a silver kojiri decorated with a dragon in clouds and fitted with an iron kozuka inlaid with silver waves and gold plovers, blade indistinctly signed Iyo (no) kami Fujiwara Toshi... ; the hilt mounted with silver fuchi-gashira with crashing waves and a pair of shakudo and gilt menuki of armor and a sword, the tsuba carved as stylized wings with gilt-inlaid clouds; the dagger hira-zukuri , iori-mune , with muzori curvature, ko-itame forging pattern and suguha tempered edge with a small rounded tip, the tang unshortened with one mekugi-ana ; in wood storage scabbard 21 3/8in.
