A QUEEN ANNE EBONY STRIKING BRACKET CLOCK, MADE FOR THE SPANISH MARKET Charles Gould, London. Circa 1705 The rectangular gilt-brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring and pierced blued steel hands, the finely matted centre with mock pendulum and decorated calendar apertures, ringed winding holes and rosette engraved centre, the foliate engraved border interrupted by winged cherub spandrels and signed at the bottom Chr: Gould Londini Fecit , strike/silent above XII [engraved non suona/suona ] the twin gut fusee movement with seven ringed pillars, verge escapement, pull quarter repeat on five bells with hour strike on further bell, Webster-style foliate pierced and engraved backcock to the backplate engraved with flowerheads within scrolling foliage, signed in the centre Christope. Gould Londini Fecit and flanked below by blued steel ratchet and clicks for the twin barrel set-up, the case with foliate cast gilt-brass mounts to the cushion-moulded top surmounted by a large foliate-cast gilt-metal handle, foliate urn finials, pressed foliate gilt-metal mounts to the front door and glazed sides, the moulded base on brass bun feet 13¼in. (35cm.) high
