A Queen Anne ebony and brass-mounted table timepiece with pull quarter repeat
DANIEL QUARE, LONDON. CIRCA 1710
A Queen Anne ebony and brass-mounted table timepiece with pull quarter repeat Daniel Quare London. Circa 1710 The case with engraved brass later (?) handle to cushion-moulded top applied with gilt-metal foliate and eagle mounts, with pierced frets above glazed side panels and to the front door top rail, with grotesque mask escutcheons to the front door, on stepped and moulded plinth and raised on brass bun feet, the rectangular 16.5 x 20 (6½ x 8 in.) dial with foliate scroll engraving to the top around an oval reserve signed Dan Quare/LONDON , with winged cherub mask spandrels to silvered chapter ring with elaborate sword-hilt half hour markers and cross half quarter hour markers, the matted centre with date and mock pendulum apertures, blued steel hands (later minute), the eight day movement secured with steel brackets to the four corners of the back plate, the fully latched movement with five substantial pillars, verge escapement, single chain fusee, with pull quarter repeat on two bells, the cord running through a bracketed pulley to the side of the case, the back plate also engraved with foliate scrolls around an oval reserve with laurel border, signed Dan. Quare/LONDON , with pierced and engraved apron; winding key, case key 38.5 cm. high, handle down
