A FINE CASED PAIR OF 16-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED D.B. FLINTLOCK CARRIAGE PISTOLS BY H.W. MORTIMER & SON, GUN-MAKERS TO HIS MAJESTY, LONDON, NO. 1404, LONDON SILVER HALLMARKS FOR 1811 With signed browned twist barrels, silver fore-sights, case-hardened patent breeches each with platinum-lined touch-hole and two platinum lines, engraved grooved case-hardened tangs, signed engraved case-hardened locks each with engraved blued safety-catch, roller, rainproof pan, and 'French' cock, figured walnut half-stocks (one with old repair), plain rounded butts, full silver mounts engraved with trophies of arms, the trigger-guard finials with shields charged with the Union Jack and lion rampant, original horn-tipped ramrods, and much of their original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with accessories including three-way flask covered in red leather, the lid with trade label of James Wilkinson & Son, No. 12 Ludgate Hill, London for circa 1820-30, the exterior with flush-fitting carrying handle, London proof marks, barrelsmith's mark HM crowned, silver maker's mark of Moses Brent 16in.
