Madame Vincent was a pupil of van Spandoenck and Redouté, and exhibited in the Paris Salon 1814-1824. For the English edition the plates were re-engraved, thus appearing in reverse to those of the French edition. This work is bibliographically confused, different authorities calling for different numbers of plates. The uncoloured states of the plates are printed in outline only, before the addition of stipple, and are not simply uncoloured impressions" (de Belder). "The only English stipple engravings printed in colour by a printer whose name is recorded - B. McQueen" (Dunthorne). - Die Kollation entspricht der von Dunthorne, allerdings sind in vorliegendem Exemplar alle farbigen Tafeln in den ersten Teil gebunden und alle schwarzen Tafeln (mit Ausnahme der ersten zu den Erdbeeren gehörigen Tafel) in den zweiten Teil. Übrigens sind die schwarzen Tafeln entgegen de Belder doch in Punktiermanier gestochen. Eine von Dunthorne genannte Tafel "Tints" zum zweiten Teil liegt hier nicht vor, dahingegen ist Dunthorne das hier enthaltene Frontispiz zum ersten Teil nicht bekannt. - Zusätzlich schön altkoloriertes Exemplar, breitrandig und fleckenfrei, in einem geschmackvollen modernen Einband im Stil des 19. Jahrhunderts. A fine copy, partly misbound but clean and with good margins, lacking "Tints" plate only called for by Dunthorne but with frontispiece unknown to him, in an attractive modern binding of marbled half-calf with gilt spine and lettering-piece.
