Panoz took advancements gained in LeMans racing and applied them to the Esperante for the special edition GTLM in 2005. The body benefited from extensively reworked aerodynamics and under the aluminum hood, cradled in a new carbon fiber superstructure, was a supercharged version of Ford’s quad cam, 32v V8 SOHC 4.6 liter engine. Likewise, a Tremec 6-speed gearbox replaced the base 5-speed and drives an 8.8 inch limited slip differential. While the factory 420hp is good, this particular GTLM has been further upgraded taking performance to another universe. At the Panoz dealer, the stock blower was replaced with a Ford Racing/Whipple twin screw unit and breathes out the other end through ceramic coated stainless headers and a high-flow sport exhaust system. Output jumps to 650hp, leaving AMG SLs and V10 M6s trembling in this car’s wake. Also added were PIAA Racing 19-inch light alloy wheels and Brembo front brakes with cross drilled 14-inch rotors. With 638 actual miles, an original MSRP of $141,648 (with upgrades), and ultra rarity, this is a very special car.
