The Genoa firm of Piaggio were aircraft makers who turned to motor scooter manufacture post-WW2 with the brilliant design name Vespa (Wasp) – so called because of its penetrating hum and streamlined rear body. The monocoque chassis has the engine on the left side and a spare wheel on the right. Imported into the UK since the late ‘40s the Vespa is the embodiment of the scooter, prompting fierce loyalty and fierce rivalry with its main rival, the Lambretta. This Vespa, a model sought-after by the collection for some time, is the Legendary ‘150GS’, the absolute pinnacle of the make, widely held to be the ‘best ever’. Original, un-damaged and un-modified, with accessories, it has documentation and awaits restoration.
